Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, July 30th, people often say that the eyes are the windows of the soul. An international research team has used artificial intelligence technology to judge the character by observing eye movements.
Researchers at the University of Stuttgart, Australia, Flinders University and the University of South Australia used state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to prove the relationship between personality and eye movement. They tracked the eye movements of 42 subjects in their daily lives and then used questionnaires to assess their personality traits.
It was found that eye movements can show whether a person is sociable, cautious or curious, and the algorithm software can reliably identify four of the "big five personality": neuroticism, extroversion, pleasantness and conscientiousness. The "Big Five Personality Theory" refers to the fact that psychologists have found that five traits can cover all aspects of personality description, namely extroversion, pleasantness, conscientiousness, neuroticity and openness.
The researchers said that the study tracked the visual movement of the subjects in their daily lives, rather than the visual movements under strict control in the laboratory, thus providing results that are closer to reality.
In addition, the research results can provide important reference for the development of emerging fields such as social signal processing and service robots, help improve human-computer interaction, and help develop robots and computers that are more natural and better understand human social signals.
The research report was published in the new issue of the Swiss Journal of Human Neuroscience.
