EnsoData of Madison, Wisconsin, recently received a $550,000 investment in A-round financing from HealthX Investment for the development of sleep data analysis software. The company has established a partnership with Y Combinator.
Chris Fernandez, co-founder and CEO of EnsoData, told reporters that his partner with the company, company COO Sam Rusk, is an undergraduate student at Madison University in Wisconsin. Both of them are interested in companies that build machine learning algorithms to analyze health data. They discussed with more than 80 medical experts from different disciplines and decided to focus their research on sleep.
The company's first product, EnsoSleep, analyzes sleep data and starts with a research project at the University of Wisconsin. EnsoSleep is designed for a wide range of sleep clinics ranging from small private clinics to large integrated health systems.
Fernandez explained that the interface is a bit like Dropbox. The patient passes the sleep test and the data can be collected either in a technically regulated laboratory or at home. The researchers then upload the sleep data into EnsoSleep, whose standardized format is EDF. EnsoSleep will process the data and the results will be re-downloaded back to the local browsing software connected to the sleep monitoring device.
EosoData will use investment to hire data science experts and sales teams. The company also plans to submit a license application to the FDA.
