Corn, sorghum seedlings feed pigs, cattle and other animals susceptible to poisoning

In the countryside, every summer, many people use corn seedlings, sorghum seedlings, pumpkin vines, etc. to feed pigs, cattle and other livestock, but often eat too many tender seedlings, resulting in pigs, cattle gastrointestinal dysfunction, and some even died.

Why do pigs and cattle eat poisoned corn when they eat fresh corn seedlings? These seedling stems and leaves contain a toxin known as cyanide glycosides, which are converted into the highly toxic substance, hydrocyanic acid, by the action of enzymes and stomach acid after the animals have eaten these seedlings. Hydrocyanic acid can interfere with the oxidative process of enzymes on cell respiration, causing the respiratory center cells of livestock to stop the exchange function due to lack of oxygen, and then undergo tissue hypoxia. After the occurrence of poisoning, the livestock became restless, opened their mouths and raised their necks, had a dilated pupil, salivation, abdominal pain, vomiting, difficulty in breathing, quadriplegia, and convulsions. Preventive measures are:

Avoid fresh seedlings directly feeding corn, sorghum, etc. In their different growth stages, the amount of toxins differ greatly. Young seedlings, especially those harvested after harvesting, contain the most toxic foods and are most dangerous to eat. To the late growth stage, the amount of toxins is minimal. Therefore, seedlings should not be directly fed to pigs and should be fed with other feeds after drying or silage.

After soaking in cold water, the seedlings, seedlings of corn and sorghum seedlings will be soaked in fresh water for a few days and then washed to reduce toxins, which can significantly remove the poison to livestock. After dipping, the tender seedlings should not exceed one-third of the mixed food.

When boiled and detoxified cyanide glycosides are most easily decomposed of hydrogen cyanide under 40°C-60°C, hydrocyanic acid is also volatile in solution, so when cooking for pigs, as long as the micro-boiling is ensured, open the pan Cover, keep turning and let cool, the vast majority of poisons have been removed, and generally no harm.
If you mistakenly eat an excessive amount of fresh corn or sorghum seedlings that have developed symptoms of livestock poisoning, use the following methods:
Potassium permanganate gastric lavage with potassium permanganate 2000 times with guide stomach hose instrument repeatedly washed stomach, the symptoms will gradually ease.

Intravenous injection of 1-2% concentration of methylene blue solution was injected at 1 ml per kilogram of body weight.
