Mycotoxins are toxic substances produced by molds or fungi. The toxic effects on pigs are related to the presence of toxic substances in the feed and the presence or absence of other mycotoxins and the animals themselves.
Mycotoxin hazards:
Aflatoxin: retarded growth, decreased feed rate, coarse coat, depression, anorexia, acute liver disease, and immunosuppression.
Ochrotoxin: attacks the kidneys, immune and hematopoietic system, liver becomes fragile, weight gain decreases, growth is slow.
Vomiting toxins: Damage to the intestines, reduced feed intake, secondary infection with bacteria, vomiting, and food refusal.
T-2 toxins: Invade the digestive tract, stomach and intestinal lesions, reduce feed intake, antifeedant, vomiting, and immunosuppression.
Citrinin: Invades the kidneys, causing kidney disease, decreased feed intake, polyuria, soft stools, and diarrhea.
F-2 toxin: Estrogen hyperactivity, irregular estrus, miscarriage, stillbirth, boar semen quality.
Fumonisin: impaired growth, jaundice, chronic liver dysfunction, decreased feed intake, and immunosuppression.
